Each spring the Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society hosts an “Evening of Wines.”
The event features a live and silent auction and has become a primary fundraiser for the National MS Society. In 2011, the “Evening of Wines” topped 2 million dollars raised since its inception in 1985. And through the years the “Evening of Wines” has evolved to become one of Alabama’s most distinguished wine events.
The 2012 “Evening of Wines” marks twenty-seven years of excellence and will be held Sunday, May 20th at The Country Club of Birmingham. Napa Valley’s Chuck Wagner will be the Honorary Chairman for the event. And select wines from the Wagner Family of Wine portfolio will be paired with dinner. Passed Hors d’oeuvres will be served with Conundrum California White Wine 2010 and Meiomi by Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2010. For the first course, Mer Soleil Chardonnay 2009 will be paired with Chardonnay Poached Lobster Salad. For the entree Belle Glos ‘Clark & Telephone’ Pinot Noir 2010 will be served with Braised Beef Short Ribs in Pinot Noir Reduction with Parmesan and Herb Risotto. And a final course of Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is a match for Assorted Cheeses and Chocolate Truffles. The highlight of the evening is the live auction of extraordinary wines, wine trips, special dinners and other wine-related lots.
Lee Weathers heads the steering committee for the “Evening of Wines.” Other committee members include Scott Atkinson, Eric Franz, Charles Fry, John Griffin, Bradley Lard, Kevin Logsdon, April Mason, Tom Miller, Wimberly Miree, Jr., Richard Robinson, George Trible, Richard Vest, Jan Walsh, and Charles Yeates.
