I first met Robert Mondavi at Premiere Napa Valley 2006. Every time I open a bottle of his wines I am reminded of that day. Today was no exception, when I opened a box delivered to my door with a picnic basket filled with his Private Selection wines.

Mondavi developed a deep appreciation of the vineyards of California’s coast during the decades that he sourced fruit from this region. And thus in 1994, Robert Mondavi Private Selection was founded to showcase the quality and variety of grapes from North and Central Coast appellations. Robert Mondavi Private Selection produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Fume Blanc, Syrah, Zinfandel and Riesling.

Make a Robert Mondavi memory of your own by packing Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines in your picnic basket or serving at your tailgating table. The Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 and Chardonnay 2011 both have price points of $11 a bottle, making good times affordable. So the more the merrier. The Cab offers notes of black cherry and other dark berry fruits. Pair it with your tailgating grilled steaks, burgers or spare ribs. The Chardonnay offers notes of pineapple, peach, vanilla spice and toasty brown sugar. Match this wine with a Central Coast dish, from Little Napoli Restaurant, Penne Alla Napoli.
