Food Friendly Sparkler
“This is an inexpensive and wonderful sparkling wine. It is affordable enough for parties and weddings, yet the quality will impress friends because it is equal to some of the better Champagnes,” Davis says. The Crémant has a creamy nose and delightful, tiny bubbles. On the palate, it has a pleasing mousse, and its acidity is perfect for lighter food. “In blind taste tests, Jean-Luc’s Crémant beat champagnes that were awarded 92 and 94 points by Wine Spectator,” she says.
Davis suggests pairing the wine with spicy fried calamari, mini Cajun crab cakes, sushi and other Asian cuisines. It also makes a great dessert wine when paired with strawberries. “I love it with chocolate-flourless torte with strawberries, chocolate dipped strawberries, creamy vanilla bean ice cream with strawberries,” she says.
