Tough times call for value wines. And The Other Guys recently released a line of great wines that pinch pennies without pinching quality. Priced at $12 each, their new line of Pennywise 2008 vintage wines will not put a dent in your wallet.

Pennywise Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon pair well with affordable summer, grilled fare. The Pennywise Pinot is ruby in color with notes of chocolate truffles, cherry, caramel and oak. Flavors of ripe plum and wild strawberry lead to a finish of blueberry and espresso. Pair this terrific wine with a grilled turkey burger topped with fresh chevre, caramelized onions and Dijon mustard. The Pennywise Cabernet Sauvignon is garnet in color and offers aromas of blackberry, caramel and cherry. Pronounced fruit flavors of currant, black raspberry, molasses lead to a finish of black licorice. Match this Cab with marbled meat, such as an affordable t-bone steak.  Add sides of charred Brussels sprouts and roasted potatoes—topped with sour cream and bacon.

Use the change you saved on these two wines to purchase other Pennywise wines. Pinch a penny and grab a bottle of Pennywise Chardonnay, Merlot, or Petite Sirah from this inaugural 2008 vintage selection. Or buy all five wines for the same cost as one $60 bottle of wine.
